| Two MT-3 Portable Isolation Enclosures were used to remove 250 delaminating spots of Asbestos Containing Plaster Ceiling Finish throughout the NW Terminal. This condition was caused by roof leaks. The condition required the finish to be removed and replaced with non-asbestos material. The project was completed using the MT-3 with modified hoods in the curved ceiling portions of the terminal. The units were placed on scissors lifts in order to reach the heights, which ranged up to 35 feet above the terminal floor. Alternatives to the MT-3 would have been to set up scaffolding throughout the work area or to completely close off portions of the terminal for weeks to perform asbestos abatement under full containment.
This project demonstrated the MT-3's great adaptability. In addition, passengers and airport workers could carry on business as usual, and there was no disruption of service.
Completion Schedule: 14 shifts, 10pm - 6am
